ZPO

ZPO Maps

When should you pick up ammo in ZPO maps, and when shouldn’t you? Well, that depends on the kind of ZPO map you are on. But let me give you 2 examples, 2 maps, where it is of vital importance that people pick up ammo they cannot use for themselves. After that, I will also give 1 example, of 1 map, where it is less important to pick up all the ammo.

Keretti

The most important objective in Keretti is, ofcourse, the mine. If the mine gets closed: the humans wins. If they humans fail at closing the mine: the zombies win. Any way, thats what I notice 9 out of 10 times. The mine is so hard because it is directly beneath zombie spawn. If the zombies are smart, they will put all their effort in the mine. But lets not make a mapguide from this. I will get to the point.

The point is that in the mine, there is hardly any weapons and ammo: a piece of C4, a rifle, a remmy and some random stuff (most of the ammo is random too). Therefor, it is of vital importance that one or two survivors go to the warehouse or the files at the start of the game, to pick up some ammo and then carry it asap to the mine. By that time, the survivors in the mine area will be in very big need of ammo.

As you can see, it is very important, in this case, that ammo gets picked up and taken somewhere else to actually win the objective.

Harvest

A very good example as well is Harvest. In this map, there will be 2 real fighting positions for the survivors where a lot of ammo is recuired to stay alive.

1. Fighting position number one is at the start of the game, in the house. It is important that everybody picks up all the ammo they can find, and beside that pick up barricading hammers and the piece of c4 (on the first floor). All of this should be taken to the room that leads to the basement. Pile up all the pistol, rifle and shotgun ammo (there hardly ever spawns a magnum at the start, if it does: check underneath the bed on the first floor. But most of the time, picking up mag ammo isn’t the most important thing at the start).

This way, you got all the ammo you’ll need to defend this place, which isn’t as easy as it might look. There are 3 entrances after all.

2. Position number 2 is the barn. It is of vital importance that every teammate starts picking up ammo, as soon as they enter the basement. If your smart, your team will pick up all the ammo you can find down there. After blowing the wall, make sure you get all the ammo at the generator and just outside the generator. Get up in the barn and drop everything there on the first floor, or at the staircase so it will be easy to defend this.

In this map it is very important that some people will act as ‘mules’, as some people already call them ingame. You may not have a rifle yourself, but it is essential that, when the guy with a rifle has 100 ammo, you pick up the rest of the rifle ammo. You will need everything to hold out in the barn after all.

Biotec

However, in some ZPO maps you shouldn’t be running around with ammo all the time. Biotec is one of the largest official ZPO maps around. Especially at the start of the game it is useless to run around with ammo for others. My advise is: leave it. But wait one second. A very smart thing to do is picking up the ammo in the red corridor rooms, and then drop it in the hall of the red corridor. That way, people dont have to go into all of these rooms, but can simply walk over the ammo as they go towards the Lab or the Basement.

Only at the end you want to make sure you got some small extras, cause you will have to hold out in the Lab for a short amount of time. And also at the helipad it can come in handy to got some small extras, but not too much. You don’t want to be too much fatigued. You will have to move right passed the zombie spawn after all.
