ZPS Maps
When should you pick up ammo in ZPS maps? And when shouldn’t you? This guide will tell you all about it.
I used to work with the principle:
Leave the ammo you cant use.
But lately, I tend to pick up some of the ammo in places that are hard to get to. Ofcourse, there is a risk to this, cause it will slow you down. So, what is smart? When should you pick up the ammo in places that are hard to get to? I tend to work like this:
It’s probably smarter to take extra ammo for others with you when you have a rifle (when being slow doesnt matter as much) then when you have a magnum or shotgun, and slowing you down can be fatal.
To go short: do you carry a weapon that recuires you to be fast? Don’t pick up the ammo. At least, that would be my advise in most of the cases. Ofcourse, there are always some exceptions and situations where in you really have to pick up some ammo.
Downside
However, not everybody just picks up ammo in places that are hard to get to. Some simply press the action button as soon as they see a shiney box of weapon goodies.
Now there are 2 possebilities:
1. The person is new, and just carries all the ammo with him, without ever dropping it (until he dies).
2. The person will bring all the ammo to one spot.
In case of number 1, there isn’t much you can do. Except for telling him he should’nt just pick up all the ammo. Most of the times, you will also have to tell this person how to drop the ammo (with ‘v’ and ‘t’).
But lets move to person number 2 who takes the ammo to one place. There is a downside to this tactic:
Hardly ever, people tell eachother that they have picked up ammo and dropped it at some place (for instance projector room in cinema). Beside that, they won’t tell, and won’t be able to tell, where they have actually been picking up all the ammo. This results in you running around, searching for ammo, getting fatigued and not finding any ammo at all.
Therefor, if you pick up ammo and drop it somewhere: make sure that you can give a bit of information on where you have taken the ammo, that way, people won’t be running to a place, thinking there is ammo, when there is not.
Also, inform your teammates that you have dropped your ammo at a certain place. That way people will know where to get ammo. It might be handy to also tell what kinds of ammo, else people will still walk for nothing to your ammo stash.
- What to do?
Most of the time, there won’t be someone to tell you there is ammo at one place. For experiencied players, it is then important that they visit well-known ‘camping’ positions. Most of the times you will be able to find something there (if your able to get inside a camp position). Beside that, there are always some ‘forgotten’ places: ammo spawns that not many people know of. Go to those places when your really low on ammo.
Upside
Don’t get me wrong. Picking up ammo in ‘hard to get’ places can actually be very smart. Especially in the late game of a round, it can be very hard to go to a zombie spawn to get some ammo. Make sure that ammo in zombie spawns gets taken first, at the start of the round. At that time it is still possible for you to get to it. On the other side, it is smart if the zombie teams defends well-known weapons and ammo places. Try to defend these places and prefend the survivors from simply getting them. Sometimes, it can be smart to punch away a weapon behind a box, this way it will never be found and therefor never gets used. A small victory for the zombies.
